Marietta Police say the man was breaking into a car on Greene Street when the owner of the car tried to stop him.

They got a call from Marietta Memorial Hospital that a man had been cut with a knife.

He has since been released.

Sargent tells Marietta Police he was leaving his home at 854 Greene Street for work when he noticed a man trying to break into his car.

He approached the man to try and stop him and that's when the man swung and cut him with a knife twice.

"He is described as being 5'9", brown hair, not crew buzzed short but a little longer. brown eyes, he was wearing blue jeans and some type of dark shirt, we are not sure if that was a hoodie or a tshirt, it was a dark colored shirt. He's in his late twenties, average build and a white male," says Marietta Police Capt. Jeff Waite.

Police say then the man took off across the street north, towards Vine Street.

Officers have searched the neighborhood.
