A tribute to an athlete who, in her young life, left an impression on her fellow athletes and the community.

The Elite Sports Center Friday morning officially named its south basketball court for Marissa Miller.

She's the 12-year old Jackson Middle School student who died in early September.

Miller often played basketball at Elite, and is remembered fondly by the staff there.

"I called her a superstar; she was a superstar in basketball, but I thought she was a superstar as a person," says Joe Crislip, Co-Manager of the Elite Sports Center. "Everybody loved her, and she had a great motto of, ' Be Kind, Work Hard and Have Fun', and Marissa did that each and every day."

in spite of the weather-related problems Friday in Vienna, hundreds of Marissa's fellow students at Jackson came out to witness the dedication.

Area middle school runners face off at McDonough Park in honor of a fellow athlete.

The Marissa Miller Memorial 3K is sponsored by the River City Runners and Walkers Club.

Middle school cross country runners hit the course Tuesday to honor Marissa.

It's just one of several events in the past few weeks to remember the Jackson Middle School 7th grader.

Her teammates say the run was emotional for them, but they want to make Marissa proud and continue to push themselves to achieve excellence.

Marissa played basketball, soccer and was an avid runner.

She died nearly three weeks ago of an undiagnosed congenital heart abnormality.
