A number of ceremonies were held Monday to pay respect to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Starting at City Park, Parkersburg held their Memorial Day ceremony Monday morning.

A large number of people showed up for the event as words were spoken thanking the thousands of men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in exchange for our freedom.

The American Legion laid a wreath at the memorial to show their respect.

"Be more informed that our veterans are who keep us free in this world today. If it hadn't been for them we wouldn't have the freedoms that we have today," says Alice Fought, president of American Legion Post 15.

She adds that it's important to see the community come together and show their honor for our veterans.
