Patient Death At W.V. State Hospital Investigated

HUNTINGTON, W.V. (AP) - Two workers at a state-run psychiatric hospital in Huntington have been suspended following the death of a patient.

The Department of Health and Human Resources says the 29-year-old male forensic patient at Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital died at a local hospital on Dec. 28. The next day, hospital officials contacted police after they reviewed security tapes.

The DHHR said Tuesday in a statement that two employees "involved with the patient" were suspended pending an investigation. The agency didn't provide details.

Generally, a forensic patient is someone found unfit to stand trial by a court or found not guilty by reason of insanity.

The body was sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy.
