UPDATE: Man Pleads Guilty In Meigs County Death

22 years in prison.

That's the sentence facing Ryan Cozart for his role in the death of a 57-year-old man at a Meigs County motel last May.

Cozart pleaded guilty Thursday to the death of Wallace Chaffin.

Chaffin was found dead in his room at the Meigs Motel back on May 9th.

The Meigs County prosecutor says as a part of the deal Cozart pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence and robbery.

Ariel Smith and Sara Craig are also facing charges in the crime.


UPDATE: 5/17/2013

On Friday, Meigs County Grand Jury indicted three people in connection with the murder of Wallace Chaffin.

Chaffin was found dead in his room at the Meigs Motel on May 9th.

Ryan Cozart is charged with aggravated murder, tampering with evidence, and aggravated robbery.

Ariel Smith is charged with complicity to felonious assault and tampering with evidence.

Sara Craig is charged with tampering with evidence, obstructing officials business, and receiving stolen property.

All three are scheduled to be arraigned in Meigs County Common Pleas Court on Monday, May 20 at 9:15 a.m.

Police arrested three people in connection with a murder at a hotel in Pomeroy.

According to the Meigs County Sheriff's Office, Wallace Chafin, 57, was found dead Thursday morning at the Meigs Motel.

Investigators believe the crime happened at about 11:30 Wednesday night.

Ryan Cozart, 32, Ariel Smith, 22, and Sara Craig, 33, are all charged in connection with the murder.

Cozart faces murder charges. Smith and Craig both face complicity to commit murder.

Investigator say they arrested Cozart and Craig at about 1:50 Thursday morning when they returned to the crime scene in the victim's car.

Smith was arrested at a home in Portland, Ohio.

Craig was on house arrest for meth charges in Meigs County. Investigators say she cut off her house arrest bracelet.

No word yet on a motive. Chafin's body has been sent for an autopsy.


Police say a homicide occurred last night at the Meigs Motel in Pomeroy.

The Meigs County Sheriff's Office says three suspects are in custody.

The Sheriff's Office and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation are investigating.

The victim's name isn't being released until family is notified.

No further information is being released at this time.
