Pleasants County Sheriff's deputies were on hand throughout the morning Wednesday at St. Marys High School, investigating comments made by students through social media.
The Pleasants County Sheriff's Department, the city police department, and school officials themselves have assured us there has not been a lockdown at the school.
Sgt. Pete Templeton of the sheriff's office says that, after talking to students, they believe the comments were no more than rumors.
Michael Wells, Pleasants County Superintendent, issued this statement Wednesday afternoon:
"There were reported allegations of a potential threat at St. Marys High School, which the board (of education) takes seriously.
Law enforcement has been notified, and are working with school officials and investigating the allegations to ensure continued student and staff safety."
Wells had no further comment on the situation.
