Poll: Gingrich Now The Pick Of Ohio Republicans

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A new poll shows former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich now leads the Republican field in the presidential battleground state of Ohio.

The Quinnipiac University poll out Thursday represents a big comedown for businessman Herman Cain, the top pick of Ohio GOP voters in a similar poll in late October.

Gingrich is now the choice of 36 percent of the state's Republican voters. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is second with 18 percent.

No other candidate scored more than 7 percent, including Cain.

The poll shows President Barack Obama would face a tight re-election race in Ohio against either Gingrich or Romney.

The overall survey of 1,437 Ohio voters has a margin of error of 2.6 percentage points. The margin of error from 500 Republicans surveyed is 4.4 points.
