Preservation Grants Available Through Oct. 31

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Preservation grants are available for agencies that want to save some of West Virginia's history.

The State Historic Preservation Office is accepting applications for historic preservation survey and planning grants through Oct. 31.

About $80,000 is earmarked for the program through the National Park Service Historic Preservation Fund.

State or local government agencies, nonprofit and for-profit groups, and educational institutions can apply.

Eligible projects include architectural and archaeological surveys, preparation of nominations to the National Register of Historic Places, heritage education programs relating to preservation activities, pre-development activities and comprehensive planning documents.

The West Virginia Archives and History Commission will select winning projects.
