The cost of prom is rising but one shop could be the answer to the bottom lined blues.
New statistics say the average cost of prom festivities totals $1,078. That's up 30% from last year. However, there is way to keep your total costs down.
"Consignment is when you bring in your clothes and we sell them," explains Denise Pottmeyer, manager of the Clothes Tree Consignment Boutique. "We get half of the money and you get half of the money."
Consignment stores are back in a big way and with one of a kind pieces being sold at a fraction on the original cost- shoppers say the stores can't be beat.
"I came here because I've been here before and I like the dresses here," says Parkersburg High School sophomore Abbie Rouse. "And I thought I'd save my mom the stress of going to an actual designer store."
Rouse says walking out with a dress well within her budget let's her spend more money on different things.
"I'm just really happy that I found it [the dress] and that leaves more money to get things that I really need for prom. Things like getting my hear done and shoes. It just make me happy."
That happiness can be extended further because you can literally one stop shop at a consignment store.
"We have very unique dresses ,some of the dresses that have come in come from New York and different places," adds Pottmeyer. "We also have jewelry, the shoes, and everything to go with it. One lady walked out of here with two dresses, shoes, and accessories for two girls for $160. She was elated."
That elation can be yours too, if the consignment store price is right,
