Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today was a day for the history books... a celebration of Martin Luther King's Jr.'s birthday and the 44th president being inaugurated again.

"I think it's wonderful that Martin Luther King's celebration of his birthday has fallen on the same day of President Barack Obama's inauguration," says Regina Robinson of Vienna. "We as African Americans and all Americans should really be proud to have this president and celebrating it on this day."

Regina feels blessed to see this day and reach this milestone in history, because she says many thought it would never come.

"When my daughter was in high school she wrote an essay about Martin Luther King's birthday and Martin Luther King period and how he was a soldier marching," Robinson says. "And she compared that to herself, she was in the PHS band. She compared that to herself marching -- left, right, left into justice."

Remembering the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the day of Obama's second term inauguration.

"I never thought there would be an African American president and just for it be celebrated on this day is just really exciting for all of America," Robinson says. "I just thank the Lord that we've reached this area because some of us thought we would never get this far."

She says she was touched by the image of a young boy at the inauguration and his response to the big day.

"It was a five-year-old little boy, an African American little boy and he was looking at TV and his mother snapped his picture," Robinson recalls. "What she said was that he was so excited raising his hand like the president because he sees someone that looks like him."
