Salvation Army "Stuff the Truck" Campaign

On a dreary day, a lot of people contributed to a brighter Christmas for area youngsters.

"The rain was awful this morning, but people were still filling up our barrels you see behind us," said Lieutenant Erik Henry of the Parkersburg Salvation Army. "So people don't care if its raining or snowing. People still want to give back to the community."

The goal: to stuff a truck in Vienna, and one on Parkersburg's south side, with toys and winter goods for children for the holiday season.

The campaign was nationwide, and held at Wal-Mart stores across the country.

Flyers handed to customers suggested what items were needed, be they toys or coats, and a lot of the patrons responded.

"Parkersburg is a great city to live in," says Lt. Henry, "where people want to pitch in and help out when people are in need."

The items go to local youngsters being helped by the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.

With a lot of people shopping, in spite of the weather, there potentially are a lot of those youngsters who will see the sun shine on Christmas morning.
