WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Jay Rockefeller, former Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence issued the following statement today:
“The official end of the war in Iraq is a historic turning point for both the United States and Iraq, and it is a significant step toward ending the decade of war that began with the tragic attacks of 9/11. More than a million Americans selflessly served in Iraq to protect our country, including several thousand West Virginians. Our troops deserve our praise and recognition - they have all given up so much for this cause and nearly 4,500 Americans made the ultimate sacrifice. We will never forget them. West Virginia lost 24 brave men and women in this conflict, and 220 more were wounded. They are true heroes and we are all indebted to them for their service.”
