Sewer Rate Hike Proposed For Parkersburg

A sewage rate hike is heading to Parkersburg City Council to be voted on.

But the mayor says the hike is inevitable.

Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell says the city utility board voted to send the raise in rates to the board Tuesday night.

The proposal would increase sewer rates in Parkersburg by about 30 percent in the next four years.

Council will vote whether to accept the hike.

But Mayor Newell says it is council's obligation to maintain the sewage and the hike has to happen.

Also at the city council meeting Tuesday night, it was decided mini golf is coming back to Southwood Park.

The board approved to accept a $70,000 grant for the facility, although it will not cost that much.

Mayor Newell says they will start building in the spring.

Also the board approved to have the transit authority excess levy for general funding on the ballot this year.

That is the authority's only funding.
