Sewer System Upgrades

The EPA wants to do away with single package plants and get everyone on a set sewer system.

Mayor Mike Lorentz says Belpre is under half their capacity now, even with the county sewer line coming in from the west.

The Port Authority approached the city about businesses north of them on Route 7, little package plants and septic systems.

Since they are only three miles away Belpre is the only logical choice.

When the matter of funding came up, they realized they have an issue that can also be addressed with this project.

"One of our... a sewer line and a water line that lays right near the river bank and as that erodes puts us in jeopardy," says Mayor Lorentz. "So we can actually help the City of Belpre and help our neighbors and help develop an area that doesn't have good utilities and sewer systems."

If the city is successfully funded, they would receive $3.2 million for the project by the end of the year.

Mayor Lorentz says he wants to ensure job retention and that their infrastructure is sound as well.
