UPDATE 2/12/2014 5:30 PM
Best in the mid-west.
We brought you just the crust of the story Tuesday.
A new wood-fired pizzeria takes top honors for America's favorite food.
Shortys Pizza faced stiff competition their second time around at the North American Pizza and Ice Cream Show in Columbus.
More than 60 pizza chefs competed, including those from New York, Pennsylvania and Florida.
Co-owner Shawn Dugan says they changed their pizza a little and made it to the finals.
"It was very nerve-racking, exciting and the end result was amazing. It means a lot, it's actually still a little surreal; it's still kinda soaking in what's to come for our business," he says.
Dugan says the restaurant industry is in his blood.
After studying in Italy he fell in love with pizza and never looked back.
We want to give a shout out to Shortys Pizzeria.
The Parkersburg-based pizzeria is named the best pizza in the mid-west at the 2014 Pizza Pizzazz Competition in Columbus, Ohio.
In addition to the title, Shortys receives a grand prize of $6,000.
Congratulations to them!
