(AP) - Indians first baseman Nick Swisher is having surgery on both knees and is done for the season.
He's having arthroscopic procedures performed on both knees in Los Angeles. The club said he'll need 8 to 10 weeks to recover.
The Indians said Dodgers' physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache confirmed Swisher has chronic medial knee discomfort as a result of wear and tear. Swisher is expected to make a full recovery.
Swisher was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Aug. 10. Before he was sidelined, Swisher was batting .208 with eight home runs and 42 RBIs in 97 games.
The Indians enter Wednesday's game in Minnesota 6 1-2 games out of first place in the AL Central.
