A beautiful day at the park helps the Humane Society of Parkersburg hit the jackpot and raise over $31,000.
Executive Director of the Humane Society Maryann Hollis says the money raised will help with the needs of the shelter as well as the low cost spay and neuter coupon program and clinic.
It isn't just the Humane Society who benefit from Walk Your Paws. A relatively unknown rescue was reintroduced to the public and volunteers did some public relations work for the gentle giant of canine breeds.
"Great Danes are like a person in a dogs body. They're the perfect dogs for a small home which you probably wouldn't think but they are," explains Angela Bodie, a volunteer with the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League. "They pretty much have zero energy level in the house. They just want to be snuggled and loved but they're ready to go when you are. They're perfect for anyone really."
The Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League Incorporated is always looking for volunteers, as is the Humane Society of Parkersburg. For more information on how you can help either organization click on the links below.
City Park goes to the dogs... literally! The 'Viva Paws Vegas Walk Your Paws' event brings hundreds out to support the Humane Society of Parkersburg.
The event helps raise money for the shelter as well as it's low cost spay and neuter coupon program and clinic. Humane Society Executive Director Maryann Hollis says the day is full of excitement, fun and laughs that wouldn't be possible if it weren't for a supportive and loving community.
"This is our biggest and most well attended. It's easy to do: raise funds, hand them in and take a lap around City Park! I just want to thank the community and our sponsors," Hollis says.
Around 200 people attended 'Viva Paws Vegas.' If you weren't able to attend 'Walk your Paws' but still wish to help the Humane Society of Parkersburg click on the link below.
