ELKINS, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities say a man killed in a shootout with West Virginia state troopers was being investigated for allegations of child sexual abuse.

The Inter-Mountain of Elkins says court records show a protective order had been filed against 55-year-old William David Dumire on behalf of a 12-year-old girl.

The girl's mother won an emergency protective order and a 180-day domestic violence protective order in Randolph County Magistrate Court on April 25. The case was scheduled to be back in court Monday.

The orders required Dumire to surrender weapons and ammunitions,
noting he owned three handguns that were kept at his ex-wife's house

Dumire was killed Thursday night in the shootout.

State Police say he shot Cpl. Andrew Loudin hours earlier as Loudin was investigating the sexual abuse claims.
