W.Va. Board Seeks Input On Teacher Hiring Policy

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The public has the chance to weigh in on a new teacher hiring policy in West Virginia.

The state Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday to place the proposal up for public comment for 30 days.

The policy would give schools the option to establish faculty committees that would review local applications and make recommendations to the principal and county superintendent. It allows committee members to determine important factors in hiring for the school.

The policy changes come from the wide-ranging education measure passed by the Legislature earlier this year. It allows for both faculty senates and principals to recommend applicants for classroom teaching jobs. These recommendations carry more weight when applicants include educators already employed in the local school system.
