It's a day devoted to kids. Organizers help kids learn about fishing and hope to continue these traditions down the line.
One family who frequent the derby brings five generations to fish. It's all about getting involved in outdoor sporting events.
"Well we think it's a community service for one and the big thing is we think it teaches kids about sports and the outdoors. So once they become a fisherman and learn how to do that hopefully they get into hunting and become deer hunters and stuff of that nature. So it's introducing the kids to mother nature," says trustee Jeff Shaw.
They stock the lake about a week before the derby. And all the money raised goes back to make each fish derby bigger than the one before.
