Official: 6 Hurt by Fireworks in Ohio Around 4th

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The state fire marshal's office says fireworks were involved in six injuries in Ohio around the recent Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Fire Marshal Larry Flowers says in a statement that people still got hurt despite his agency's best efforts to stop the possession and use of illegal fireworks.

His office says more than 5,000 pounds of fireworks were seized in Ohio around Independence Day and that one fireworks-related fire was reported. That July 4 fire in Middletown in southwest Ohio left a firefighter with minor injuries.

The fire marshal's office says three men hurt using illegal backyard fireworks were among the others who were injured.

Flowers says the injuries underscore that fireworks are explosive devices that can be dangerous.
