Honoring a group of veterans that deserves a grand welcome home. Ohio Governor John Kasich signed into law Friday, a proposal designating March 30th as Vietnam Veterans Day.
The Veterans Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley is holding a Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans ceremony Saturday.
The event will take place at City Park beginning at 10:00 am. Refreshments will follow.
Museum Director, Gary Farris, says, Vietnam Veterans, like himself weren't welcomed home in celebration.
"Part of the problem with returning veterans from Vietnam is they did not come back in large groups like they do now. But even that at least they shouldn't have been protested against or called names."
He adds this day is important to in a way make up for the past....and continue to honor all those who serve.
"It's been 39 years since the last combat veterans left Vietnam. It's time that we gave them a good welcome home. One that they deserve."
Farris hopes around 100 Vietnam Veterans will attend the ceremony Saturday.
