Overnight Web Sensation Co-Created By Parkersburg Native

UPDATE: 4/13/2012 4:26 PM

The creators of the Tumblr site, "Texts from Hillary" finally got a text from Hillary Clinton herself.

Parkersburg native, Adam Smith is the site's co-creator. He says, he and a friend wanted to do something fun with an iconic picture of
Hillary Clinton.

That's when the brainstorming began and the overnight web sensation was created. Smith says they just wanted a few laughs, but were overjoyed with the positive response.

The best part, they even got a laugh from Hillary in person.

"She came out of our office and she shook our hands and was incredibly friendly and told us how much she liked the site and she thought it was funny. She was so nice. The picture that we took together of the three of us where we're holding our phones and we look like we're texting, that was actually her idea to do," Smith says.

Smith adds he didn't believe it when one of Hillary's "people" e-mailed them saying Clinton wanted to meet.

"It was so great cuz she was so funny and she really just got what we were doing and she just engaged with us which was so fantastic. We launched this thing thinking it would be sorta funny to us, maybe funny to a few other people. We never thought it would be this international response. We have people all over the world talking about it and using the site. It's been a crazy week and a half."

Its become an overnight web sensation and it was co-created by a Parkersburg native.

Adam Smith graduated from Parkersburg South High School in 2001. He moved to Washington DC where he works for a non-profit political company.

Adam tells WTAP, this past Wednesday he went out for drinks with his friend, Stacy Lambe. It was then that the brainstorming began to do something fun with a popular picture of Hillary Clinton.

"It's just such an awesome picture of her that we said...there has to be something we can do with this, we can do something funny. So we decided that we were going to do something funny, and we were going to do this 'Texts From Hillary' thing, that if anything at least we would like it and we would get a laugh out of it," Smith says.

And the Tumblr site quickly turned into an overnight web sensation.

Smith adds, "it just snow balled yesterday (Thursday). All of a sudden everybody was talking about it. we were on the homepage of Yahoo News. We were on all of these political newsletters this morning. It's just really taken off."

The website allows for anyone to submit pictures of celebrities or politicians "texting Hillary".

Smith says they have received a tremendous amount of positive response to the page in just a few days. He adds, they are waiting for their text from Hillary.
