National Letter Carriers Food Drive Breaks Records

Volunteers at the Wayside Methodist Church collects and sorts through the thousands of pounds of donations.

All the food goes to stock the shelves in the Good Samaritan Center housed within the church.

Local Girl Scout Troop 5689 helped collect donations throughout the day. And while they were out collecting, volunteers were in the church sorting through the donations.

The Good Samaritan Center feeds around 76 families a month, and their shelves need to be replenished.

This food drive helps sustain them during the summer months when kids are eating more meals at home.

"Well we always just say we want a few more pounds than what we had last year. So we'd like to exceed 10,00 whether we will or not I don't know. But there are a lot of people out there hurting. So we just never know," says Good Samaritan Center Director Sue Rhymer.

It came down to the last pounds, but they did it! They beat last year's record with a final tally of 10,303 pounds.
