Officials Confirm Drowning Death Off Blennerhassett Island

Wood County Sheriff Jeff Sandy tells WTAP divers found the missing boy drowned in the Ohio River just after 7 o'clock Saturday night.

The 15 year-old boy was reported missing after he stopped to wade and swim in the Ohio River off Blennerhassett Island.

Dive teams with the Wood County Sheriff's Office and Belpre Volunteer Fire Department spent the afternoon searching the waters and surrounding area for his body.

They eventually found him under some brush in the water near the island.

The Department of Natural Resources is investigating.

Wood Count Sheriff Jeff Sandy says a dive team is working to find the body of a potential drowning victim.

The Belpre Volunteer Fire Department also has a boat involved in the search efforts.

Reports came in early Saturday afternoon that a 15 year-old boy had drowned in the water off Blennerhassett Island.
