Public Express Ideas for Grant Money Use

The first of two meetings for the public to suggest ways to spend the grant money.

The public sessions are required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to qualify for the annual grant.

The grant is around $336,000 and some will go to the asphalt paving and Paint Marietta programs.

But there's still a lot up for grabs.

Some long standing improvements like the George Street rebuilding project in Harmar Village are high on people's list of priorities.

"I would hope so. There's some that have been on the budget for years and have gotten pushed back, have gotten replaced with other emergency projects and issues that have come up. So I hope that the ones that have been on there, hanging on for years and promised to the citizens. I would hope that they would get put back on. I'm quite certain that they would be. I know the councilmen of the respective wards are really excited to get this done for their constituents," says City Development Director Andy Coleman.

There's another meeting to present project ideas on June 25th at 7 p.m. at the O'Neill Senior Center.

July 9th is the final day to submit proposals.
