A decent Hi Def webcam setup, typically used for a good security system, would do all of that. Simply aim it at the counter and record everything. This will benefit the scrap dealer as well as theft victims, and the dealers should have something like this in place already.

$10,000 sounds like he spent to much on a camera!! Walmarts got nice ones for around $100.

A lot of recycle will end up in the dump! Great move.

Really? Pictures of everything? It's going to take forever to get rid of a load of scrap. And what good will pictures do anyway? Is someone going to use the pictures to go out and dig the stolen goods out of the bottom of a pile of metal? Obviously the best they could come up with is waste everyone's time and money. Applying some common sense would be better than this. You know, like thinking that grave and historical markers really shouldn't be chopped up for scrap.

Right on wornout. C'mon govenor, veto this extreme burden on what is typically a small business! Yeah, so someone may get away with stealing something, but your overreaction may just cost some food on the table of a scrap yard owner!

Next there will be reports of video equipment stolen from the scrap yards and to stay in business, they will have to replace that equipment! I agree that a slap on the wrist isn't enough. This is just going to cost honest people money.

A picture of each piece of metal? Seriously? Is it any wonder a business struggles to stay in business? How about more than a slap on the wrist for those caught? So those of us who scrap legitimately are now going to get less for what we scrap to cover the added costs while criminals pay little when caught.
