The Washington County Sheriff's Department is looking for information on Scott Byers, wanted for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender and Theft.

Last year, an official with the Washington County Sheriff's Department says Scott Byers, originally from West Virginia, moved to Ohio without registering as a sex offender.

Then in December, Byers allegedly approached a person who had a car for sale and acted interested in buying the car.

They say Byers then went into the person's house to use the bathroom and stole opiate-based prescription pills.

A problem, that Detective Sergeant Scott Parks says is becoming more and more common in Washington County.

"We're getting a lot of burglaries, a lot of thefts, involving prescription medication. I think that's because people who are addicted to it know that it's readily accessible and to be honest, most households are going to have some kind of prescription medication left over from a surgery or that they're currently taking," says Detective Sergeant parks, Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities believe Byers is still in the area.

So if you have information on him, please call the Washington County Sheriff's Department at 740-376-7070
