There are two write-in candidates for the Vienna mayor's office in next Tuesday's election.

Brent West and Norm Harris filed as write-in candidates, in a special filing period that ended at four o-clock Friday afternoon.

It was established Thursday, after the death of Jack Roush, one of two candidates for the office in next Tuesday's election.

The other is current Vienna City Recorder Randy Rapp.

John Sheridan (Jack) Roush died Thursday morning of a heart attack. Roush was running for Mayor of the city of Vienna.

WTAP Spoke to Mayor David Nohe, who confirmed Roush's passing. Mayor Nohe says Roush's passing is a terrible loss, adding that Roush had talked about running for Mayor for the past two years.

Roush was married to his wife Melinda and had four children- Tony, Sheridan, Leighton and Dryden.

Roush was a member St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Due to Roush's death, a filing period will be open until Friday, November second at four in the afternoon for write-in candidates for mayor of the city of Vienna....

Any eligile individuals who seek to be elected by a write-in vote shall file a write in candidate certificate of announcement with the city before the deadline tomorrow at 4.

This procedure was determined by the West Virginia Secretary of State's office, the city of Vienna, the Wood County Prosecutors office and the Wood County clerks office.

Six says that if Roush won the election, the city recorder would become acting mayor on January first.

City Council would then have to appoint a person to serve out the remainder of the mayor's four-year term.

That would not happen until council's first regular meeting of the year, scheduled for January 10.
