UPDATE: Individuals Encouraged to Respond to Ballpark Feasibility Study

UPDATE 10/10/2013 04:40 PM

Businesses have responded enthusiastically to a feasibility survey for a new Parkersburg ballpark.

But backers want individuals to do the same and they're encouraging people to respond.

While it's the businesses who will provide corporate backing for the new park, it's the individuals who will buy the tickets.

And there aren't enough responses from the latter group.

The survey is to get opinions about the feasibility of bringing a professional baseball team to the area.

It may also be a site for other entertainment, such as concerts.

It has $10,000 from the city of Parkersburg, and now, backers of a proposed baseball park are looking elsewhere for funding.

Cam Huffman, director of the Area Roundtable, says he's reached out to a couple of foundations to fund a feasibility study for the complex.

That was the subject of a series of public meetings last fall.

Backers are seeking a total of $25,000 for the study.

Huffman says he hasn't heard back from the people he's contacted.

The ballpark is a key in bringing a professional baseball team to the area.

Meanwhile, the Veterans Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley hopes to have a new location someday.

It's raising money, with the goal of getting $200,000 for a new building.

The Wood County Commission Monday agreed to kick in $5,000, to match money put up by local attorney and museum supporter David Huffman.

Museum director Gary Farris says that, so far, there's $27,000 set aside for the purchase.

The museum moved to Seventh street a few years ago, from its original site on Avery street.
