Terry Brown, the director of Wood County's 911 center, received approval Monday from the county commission for the purchase of a larger rescue boat.
Brown says the current boat used by county emergency services is too small and unstable to accommodate river searchers.
"The boat we have now is small but this new one would better accommodate our needs," Brown says. " It will be safer and easier to search for people and help pull them out of the river."
The boat the county plans to buy costs $5,000, and is currently used by the city of Spencer.
Brown hopes to sell some un-needed emergency equipment at auction, to raise the money to buy the boat.
