Flood Help

If you were hit hard by flooding, we've put together some information on places to get help.

The Red Cross opened up a location at the Bids Building at WVU-P Tuesday morning and at the Belpre Fire Department. Both will be open until 7:00 p.m. Volunteers at these locations are handing out cleanup kits, snacks and signing people up for assistance.

The Red Cross will also have two mobile units in the hardest hit areas in Ohio and West Virginia. The Marietta Community Food Pantry will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will give out food regardless of income.

Also in Marietta, a distributing center will operate out of the Lafayette shopping center on the corner of Pike and Acme Street.

New Matamoras Fire Hall Salvation Army canteen opened Tuesday morning to serve meals.

The Porterfield Baptist Church will be collecting cleaning supplies for flood victims beginning Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. at the church, just outside Little Hocking. Donors are being asked to bring only cleaning items so that the people affected by the high water can sanitize their homes.

In Williamstown, the First Baptist Church is coordinating volunteers for flood cleanup. Anyone wanting to help can call 375-5888. Also in Williamstown, the First United Methodist Church is accepting donations. They're looking for cleaning supplies, bottled and gallons of water, and lunch meat.

If you're in need of a tetanus shot, you can get one from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Parkersburg Health Department.

The Belpre Lions Club has received funding to assist with flood relief efforts in Marietta, Belpre, New Matamoras and Newport in Washington County. If you've been affected by the recent flooding and have been contacted by a Lions Club member, you are asked to call John Baker from the Lions Club at 740-423-5171.
