The Aftermath

The American Red Cross has 12 people coming to Jackson County Monday, doing damage assessments.

The Red Cross is also finding temporary shelters for those left homeless.

"We'll try to help them relocate," says Red Cross Readiness Director Wilma Miller, "and try to be with them, until they have a more permanent place to live."

Displaced residents stayed in temporary shelters Sunday night, but, while permanent homes are found for them, the Red Cross is putting many of them up in local motels.

"We can't really say how long," says Miller. "Right now, we're going on a week-to-week basis."

For those interested in aiding the relief effort, the Red Cross, for now, is only accepting cash donations.

Checks can be sent to the Jackson County Relief Effort, at the Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, 805 Market Street, Parkersburg, West Virginia, 26164.
