We're starting a monthly segment on WTAP at Five with the Wood County Sheriff's Department.

Monday we had the chance to talk to Detective Barry Murphy about how to avoid being the victim in a burglary.

Murphy says they are seeing an increase in breaking and entering.

Officials say it's very important to keep your purse and personal belongings out of sight when leaving your car.

Murphy says a lot of times, people simply don't lock their doors, making themselves an easy target for a crime of opportunity.

You can contact the Wood County Sheriff's Department on their website at

If you have a question for Detective Murphy feel free to send in a question and he will answer it for you on-air!
