Parkersburg is celebrating America's birthday in style with a fireworks display for everyone to enjoy. That is, unless it rains; then the city has other plans.

Get your lawn chairs and picnic blankets ready for a colorful light show on July 4 at City Park Ballfield.

If we get rained out on the fourth, James Viers, commander of American Legion Post 15 who's putting on the fireworks says they would be rescheduled for the very next day, July 5 at 10 p.m.

“We have the police departments and fire departments and we would coordinate with them naturally to see what the problem is and if it has to be cancelled for any other reason,” Viers says. “But right now we haven't had a problem with cancelling -- only on weather.”

Viers says they like to take care of the people around the park.

Whether the fireworks are held on the fourth or the fifth, safety is always a priority and it'll be a great time either way.
