You won't be able to use the Hocking River for recreational boating and fishing this summer.
Because a new bridge is being built over the river, a stretch of the river between Coolville and Hockingport was closed off to river traffic beginning Monday.
Workers are constructing a new road connecting Ohio Route 144, which includes building a bridge across the Hocking River.
The closure will be located approximately 2.2 miles downstream from the Coolville Public Access Site and approximately 3.7 miles upstream from the Hocking River/Ohio River confluence. Notification signs will also be posted at the Coolville Public Access Site, as well as at the mouth of the Hocking River.
The Ohio Department of Transportation estimates the construction will take up to nine months to complete.
