An accident on U.S. 50 and Ohio 7 in Belpre blocked traffic on that four-lane highway for three hours.
A westbound truck hauling several air conditioner units went out of control and overturned shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Police completely shut down the portion of the highway which runs through the city, fearing at the time the air conditioner units might still have chemicals in them.
But according to Police Chief Ira Walker, that turned out not to be the case.
"There's no freon involved; the unit had been cleaned out, so there's no hazards as far as chemical spills," said Chief Walker. "It did do some damage to the roadway, which will have to be fixed. But all in all, nobody was hurt, and that's the main thing."
The driver of the truck, Dion Vance of Tuppers Plains, was transporting the air conditioners to Meigs County, Ohio.
Route 50 traffic was re-routed to Washington Boulevard until the cleanup was completed.
