With clean up efforts underway in Louisiana from the aftermath of Gustav and the east coast preparing for Hanna, the Red Cross is being stretched thin at this time.

Here in the Mid Ohio Valley officials are looking for volunteers to help out.

Katy Sulfridge, the Emergency Services Director with the Mid Ohio Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, spoke about the situation Wednesday evening on WTAP @ 5.

People interested in volunteering are encouraged to call 304-485-7311.

Have you noticed that groups like the Red Cross only come out and ask for volunteers in times on disasters. Why not recruit and train year around. What other volunteer jobs are available / needed during the down time?? Why do non-profit / volunteer organizations wait till the worst happens to ask for help? Alot of us who could help out...work. We can't just drop what we are doing and leave for 2 or 3 weeks.
