Another Bomb Threat at PHS - Students in Field House

A second bomb threat targeted at Parkersburg High School in two days was called in to the 911 Center at 11:40 am Tuesday.

At 12:05 pm, Parkersburg High School confirmed to WTAP-TV that students were gathering in the Field House.

School officials are discouraging parents and legal guardians from picking up students at an information center at the corner of 20th Street and Dudley Avenue. Parents do have the option, though, to do so.

WTAP-TV continues to cover this story and expect to have much more on WTAP at Five, WTAP News at Six and here on our web channel at WTAP.com.

The school officials took my sons cell phone when he tried to call me, I was one of the hundreds waiting for an hour to get my child on Monday. The parents need to be aware of the plans before hand and to know the expectations. We all live in the same world and share the same fears.

I have a student at PHS, I had a senior there last year. This is crazy. These kids and staff are being stressed and for what. I hope we are not starting down the same path as last year. Whoever is doing this needs to be punished. It may be just a prank to them but, it is a serious problem. As a parent you don't know weather to let your student stay and finish the day or pick them up. You only want them to be safe. I do feel the school staff has done an awesome job in facing this issue. Teachers and staff have really stepped up to the plate and operated the school effectively even in the confusion of a potential threat. The students have behaved well also. I think we as parents need to stay calm and realize that as some may choose to pick up their students the staff is working as quickly as they can to deliver them to us. As I picked my student up today, I saw some parents that needed to follow the calm lead the students had set.

I believe that yes this is a hoax but the way the school is handling it is foolish to say the least. For starters yester ther was a bomb scare and the students were held in the field house for aprox 3 hours as well as lunch had to be served there. by the time students were released into the building there was nearly no time left in classes and many of the students had been picked up by parrents "some of wich had been waiting for and hour or more". if tapes were to be released with the orgional voice there is a good chance someone could reconize it considering that it is more than likely a student within the school of from the school.

What I don't understand is.....WHY do they make these kids parade outside??? If there is even a chance of danger for these kids, I wouldn't want my kid outside for the possibilty that something worse may happen to him. Release the 911 tapes the first time it happens, and maybe parents won't have the same worry a second, third, or even more times! Don't show the kids standing outside on the news or tell where they are going. Come on people, our children need to feel safe at school.

I too am concerned, but the main thing they need to do is quit giving this so much air time. This is what these people want. And BTW the field house is inspected before the kids are allowed to go in. I also think Ginny Conley is right in not allowing the tapes to be released...it just feeds into the ego of the people behind this......and if the voice is a garbled as some one I know said it was, there's no way anyone will be able to recognize the voice. How would you feel if someone said that sounds like you or your child !! Quit giving this so much air time and let the police do their job and do what we can to change laws regarding these kind of threats. If the punishment is more severe these acts would hopefully decrease.
