American Red Cross Volunteers are still heading south to help those recovering from the recent hurricanes and tropical storms.

But it's a little tougher than usual with the disaster relief fund being at an all-time low.

The Mid-Ohio Valley chapter will be doing its part to raise money this week.

They're having a fundraiser Wednesday and Thursday in WTAP's parking lot from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The event will kick off West Virginia's attempt to raise $430,000.

"These folks are so totally affected, they're without power. Many of them lost their homes. Many of them lost all worldly possessions. American Red Cross is there to make sure they have the basics to survive," Sharon Kesselring, director of financial development, said.

I have a hard time giving money to local groups that are just going to turn around and send it out of state. Yes, the folks down south have taken a beating, but we have families right here in the Mid Ohio Valley that need our help. Shouldn't we help our won folks first????
