Barack Obama Elected President Of The United States

Washington (AP) -- Barack Obama has been elected President of the United States, the first african-american elevated to the White House.

With victories in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and other battleground states, Obama built a commanding lead over his Republican rival, John McCain.

Obama surged in the polls amid a national financial crisis, campaigning as the candidate of change. He and his fellow Democrats sought to link McCain to the unpopular George W. Bush.

The son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas, Obama soared into the national spotlight after his electrifying speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, when he was making his first run for the senate.

Emphasizing his early opposition to the iraq war, he defeated Hillary Rodham Clinton after a long, bruising primary fight. He then beat back Republican efforts to portray him as reckless, naive and inexperienced.

He also had to combat internet misinformation questioning his religion and patriotism.

As he fought to become President, Obama attracted millions of first-time voters -- and brought the historic American election to the attention of the entire world.

What we need to do is stop being hateful to each other, come together as a country, and trust in God. He has all things under His control and this election happened for a reason. This is not out of God's hands and as long as we look toward Him instead of a mere man, He will provide, protect, and guide.

I'm so glad and proud that Obama won the election. I'm not racist, but I think the world would be a better place if the whites and blacks got over their differences. The world would be a better place. I think Obama is going to be a very good predident and change the economy on the right track. Go Obama

Tommy, I just you should know that our President Elect Barack Obama is the new "Commander in Chief" not the "Cammander Chief". I guess that's something to say about our education system in West Virginia. Anyway, I have been in the armed forces for nearly 10 years now and I voted for Obama. I wasn't thrilled when Bush was elected and I had to go to war, but I did it because it was my duty as an American. I'm glad we finally have some change in the White House. Here's hoping I wont have to leave my 6 month old daughter to go back to war now that there is no risk of having an old war horse, gung-ho, lets-stay-in-iraq Commander in Chief. I'm proud of our country and proud to be part of this history making event.

Yea!!! Oh hail to the fake fraud "chief" oh please spare me. See if Obama swears in with the Bible or the Koran in Jan 09

God Help the armed force the new so called "Cammander Chief" thumbed his nose up to military when he went over to Germany. Like forget them he only matters not them. I just wonder how many will leave the service or retire out now, because they chose not to serve under the new cammander chief. I really wouldn't blame them if they did. If by chance that happens will this new so called commander chief institue the draft?

our trillion $ deficit is money that went to a war and no-bid contracts (Halliburton) - the recent $700 billion buy out also cost us. I haven't looked at the value of my 401K for months - can't bear too. we torture people and deny their rights - another plant closed here today - am I the only one who sees what a mess this country is in? - I can't imagine supporting someone to continue this (McCain). Barack Obama is smart enough to straighten out all these dumb messes but he will need our help so we'd better quit sitting around like a bunch of babies whining about phony labels and the world ending ... grow up, face the facts and get busy - that's the only choice we have.
