ODOT says State Route 339 in now opened to traffic after finishing repairs to bridge beam on Route 50.
ODOT sends people on a lengthy detour with the closure of the overpass repair work on route 50 and 339. It's leading to some drivers making a u-turn in Little Hocking.
Officials say the road closer will most likely be open this Thursday or Friday.
Work has been going on for about three weeks now since a truck hit the underside of the bridge. ODOT's detour sends people around 45 minutes out of the way.
Workers will be laying cement which has to sit for another seven days however one lane will be open.
Workers say people have been doing u-turns to avoid the detour.
"Ya there's been people coming up and doing u-turns, and coming up and asking for directions to go around to detour but you can tell, it's been kinda out of their comfort zone so to speak as far as going to work," said Ron Newson, Forman for Armstrong Steel.
ODOT explains that legally they can only use certain roads to detour the cars.
ODOT's Public Information Officer, David Rose says he knows it's been frustrating for drivers trying to get to Belpre or Parkersburg from state route 339.
"By law we can only detour on Interstate, US route and state routes. On the local roads, we don't have that information, so obviously we send people on the safest route, and obviously we try to be the most efficient but sometimes with closures like this, sometimes there is just not another way around, unless you are a local person you understand how to get around a little easier," said Rose.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says they have been called out to the detour multiple times because of heavy traffic when people are trying to u-turn.
They say the signs are there for a reason, just like a stop sign to regulate traffic, they say if people were obeying the signs there would be no back up.
