Shop with a Cop

When you think of cops, safety or slowing down your vehicle are some things that come to mind.

However, Sunday afternoon 100 kids had the opportunity to shop with a cop.

The Fraternal Order of Police in Wood County gave a $100 gift card to each child and went shopping with them at Wal-Marts in Vienna and South Parkersburg.

The FOP says it's good for the kids and the local law enforcement agencies.

"It gives them a positive aspect of us, and the policemen even enjoy it. Normally we're dealing with the bad part of life as well, and this gives us a chance to slow down and actually do something positive," Matt Board, FOP president, said.

The kids receiving this early holiday gift were selected by the DHHR, Kids First and the Women's Shelter in South Parkersburg.

I think the shop with a cop program is a great thing for the kids at christmas. As you know the funds raised for the program are raised by telephone solicitation.Wich means only a small portion of your donation actually goes for the program.Something like .20cents on every dollar. The rest of the money goes into the pockets of the fundraisers.I would like to see more money go for the kids instead of making fundraisers rich. This has to be stopped. All I'm asking is to quit giving your money away to these fake"volunteers." That's right, they lie and say they are volunteers.I don't see how they are getting away with it.So please if you want to help out 100% give directly to the Fop instead of making fundraisers rich.

this is a wonderful thing for the kids. A few of them walked out of there with a new bike , on top of the money they were given to spend. These children have seen a lot of rough times and this was a happy day for them.
