Wood County Sheriff Ken Merritt still has another week in office before the end of his term.

But Tuesday Sheriff's deputies honored Merritt's 12 years of hard work by presenting him with a new gun.

Merritt said he's honored to receive a gift from his deputies, but that they should really be thanking themselves.

"I know the sheriff gets the credit for it, but it's not him or her. It's the people who work for it, who's out every day in harms way and puts their lives out there," Merritt said.

One of the deputies did receive a big thanks.

Sergeant Shawn Graham was also awarded Tuesday as Wood County deputy of the year.
