Economy's Effect on Pregnancies

It's something you might not think is going to be affected by a recession, but studies show that with the downturn in the economy less people are trying to get pregnant.

But doctors at a local gynecologist office say they're actually seeing the opposite.

Dr. Todd Myers M.D. said they've seen an increase in pregnancies in the past month or two when the recession started.

"We do wonder sometimes if people have more free time, more time at home if they're being laid off, or if they can't go into work for some reason, if maybe they're more apt to get pregnant if they have more time," Dr. Myers said.

Dr. Myers also says it's true that fewer people may be planning pregnancies for financial reasons, but that doesn't mean less pregnancies are happening.
