Boulder, Colo. (AP) -- Boulder Police are once again taking charge of the investigation into the slaying of Jonbenet Ramsey, 12 years after the little girl was killed in her home.
Police Chief Mark Beckner said Monday that he and newly elected District Attorney Stan Garnett agreed that police should lead the investigation.
Police had turned the highly publicized case over to the DA's office in 2002 amid public criticism of how it had been handled.
Jonbenet, a 6-year-old beauty pageant contestant, was found bludgeoned and strangled in the basement of her millionaire parents' home in December 1996.
Garnett's predecessor, Mary Lacy, last year cleared Jonbenet's family in the slaying, citing new DNA tests. Lacy did not run for re-election because of term limits.
