Local Reaction to President Obama's Speech

Many Americans tuned in Tuesday night as President Barack Obama made his first speech to congress.

"I didn't hear too much about how he's going to fix all of this," Janet Sowers, who watched the speech, said.

Sowers listened carefully as President Obama spoke to congress and the nation.

"If you haven't been personally affected by this recession, you probably know someone who has," President Obama said.

"I enjoy hearing him, but it's the same old speech over and over again," Sowers said.

A speech that leaves Sowers asking questions about just how President Obama plans to weather this economic storm, but is giving others a sense of inspiration.

"I think he's taking action and his speech was kind of a call to arms for us as a large community," Jack Frech, who also watched the speech, said.

The President also praised Americans for their positive attitudes, and even those who remain a little skeptical, are keeping their chins up.

"He'll get some things done, but I don't know how much it's gonna cost us. That's what I'm a little worried about," Sowers said.

President Obama also emphasized that the nation's economic problems can't be fixed overnight, and that it's going to take some time to get back on track.

Maybe thats whats needed is more religion. Excuse me but isn't that where it all starts. Elected offical go to church or they did at one time or another. Does the ministers in those churchs preach about moral values, and jobs ext: We elect canadidates who claim to have morale values, and goes to church, and yet when he or she gets elected. They've cheated on thier taxes or had an affair ext then get exposed. After all that they still get relected like everything they did didn't matter it was ok. When it's not Then shoves the politically incorrect issue can't have a bible during recess at schools or the kids can't pray. what about the work place same thing. Now it's anything goes? Sorry, but I would have a problem with a bunch of hypocrites congressman women or were elected tell me that I couldn't pray or read the bible at my work place on my FREE time like on a break. Not shovel their politically incorrect agenda on me. We elected them they work for us we do not work for them.

Oh Boy, this is a good conversation. first off, LOL @ sarak, learners permit, thats awesome. Anyway, I keep reading "god", well god is religion, if you recall religion started the ENTIRE mess to begin with. Seperation of church an state, Roman catholic church, all the hoopla. Leave "god" where it was found, in a book.Blasphemy, I dont care, blasphemy is a thought made up by some religious sect somewhere. All those are thoughts anyway, Obama, well he might be the opposite of Bush, he might even try to help the country, maybe not, Noone knows yet. Everyone is on welfare, not because they cant find work, it because the work that is available, they dont want it, or perhaps their just lazy. I don't however agree with tax credits to those who dont pay taxes. Make em work for their life.Praying for "god" to help pay your cable bill wont cut it, and I always thought you were supposed to pray for others not yourself?? Isnt greed one of the 7 deadly sins?

Morality is,and has been dying!!! The ten commandments are being pushed to the side the kids aren't permited to pray on the free time at school nor read the bible. It's not politically correct. Congress can stick thier political correctness all they worry about is getting relected. We can get on our knees, and pray for God's intervention. Obama say's change is coming well ok fine then. By praying for god's help in HIS own time thier can be change.

Mr. Obama has unlimited politcla capital, willing accomplises in both Houses of Congress and a left wing political agenda. He has NO business expereince. Little federal expereince, and until he became a Senator was a LOCAL politician. Would you fly in a plane piloted by a pilot with little or no experience? Well you are now folks - hang on - the ship of state is being run by a guy with a learners permit.

Everyone says "morality is dying"/"put GOD back into our country". What do you mean? How? Start at home with parents? Isn't President Obama asking us to that? What if the parent fails? What can we do to stop it from happening? Tell me and I'll help. It is always talk and complaining when some trys something. I have no ideas ... tell me what to try and I will try anything once.

I like how everyone wants to blame our mess on the last 8 years, this has been coming for alot longer than 8 years. Dems blame Republicans, and Republicans blame the Dem's. It is all of their faults.Obama promises more than he can deliver. It all boils down to greed. Morality in our US is dying, and we allow it to happen, and we wonder whats wrong with our kids today. Maybe we need to put GOD back in this country.

who knows - I think that Obama and the GOV just make it up as they go along. I truly believe we the people have not seen anything yet. If you cannot see Obams helping his own people, how can you give someone that does not pay tax a tax credit, I believe that is call wellfair. OBAMA needs to stop paying welfair and put them to work.

I totally agree with John. The problem I have with Obama is the Messiah thing that everyone seems to be doing. The man is not Jesus Christ! and when I here peolpe praising him, chanting his name, it's just a little freaky. I think he will get this country into more debt. I understand this is a milestone 1st black president, maybe the next president will be a woman, that will also be a 1st, will they praise her as a god? America needs to wake up. This country is in a mess due to greed and corruption in our goverment, and we keep giving them more control. I feel sorry for our children.
