Culp Murder Search Over

Police in Jackson County, Missouri, have tentatively identified an apparent suicide victim as that of a Jackson County, West Virginia, murder suspect.

Police used hotel paperwork to tentatively identify 56-year-old Gary Culp, but the area medical examiner's office has not yet made a positive identification.

Police responded to a call at around noon today from workers at the Interstate Inn in Blue Springs, Missouri. The workers couldn't enter the man's locked room.

Upon entering the room, police found a body with a gunshot wound to the head.

Judging by the state of the body, police believe Culp had probably been dead for two or three days.

The national television show "America's Most Wanted" had aired a short feature on the Culp case last weekend.

“They're going to have a picture of Gary Culp and the vehicle he's supposed to be driving. I'm hopeful this will help us a lot. There's a lot of people who will see that, and I believe there's someone who has seen him driving that, and I think it's going to be real helpful,” says Cpl. J.A. Bowles. www.amw.com

Meanwhile, a memorial fund is being started in Linda Culp's name, to provide scholarship opportunities for area women returning to school to finish or add to their degrees.
