Just an FYI---the homecoming is not a city event, it just happens to be in downtown Parkersburg and they beg the city for $$$, plus the city pays the overtime for the main. workers/police/fire dept. With that said. "CANCEL THE EVENT". Run it as a business. If you can't pay your bills, close the doors. The event has had a long run, now its time to hang it up. It has run out of what it was intended for years ago. It's not a homecoming anymore. Just pay your $30,000 bill and move on. The folks that should pay the bill is everyone that was on last years committee. It was them that voted to spend the money that they didn't have. Divied the bill up between each of them an pay it. Plan and simple. Take the responsibility.

I think the Homecoming should be cancelled along with the Bicentennial plans and riverfront park. This city needs more important things then festivals and parks. There are no jobs; good career type jobs, we are in debt up to our ears for schools, our roads need work. Our population is dropping; our kids are leaving, businesses are closing. The city needs work; realistic work.

Fireworks are a waste of money. Personally, I hate them. Why is the city spending money they don't have? Normal people don't do that. No wonder the economy is such a mess. Spend, spend, spend.

Congratulations!!! Now, how do you propose to raise an additional $30,000 this year to pay for last years fireworks bill?? Can it be done? NO!! Good Luck.
