Every day public safety officials risk their lives to make sure our communities are safe, and Tuesday some of them got a little recognition.
The Public Service Awards is a way to honor public officials in Marietta and Washington County for going above and beyond their regular duties.
Five people were recognized including:
Matthew Hively, Marietta City Fire Department
Howard Nicholas, Washington County Firefighters Association
Sargent Rodney A. Hupp, Marietta City Police Department
Carrie Smithberger, Washington County Sheriff's Department
Dolora Hupp, Washington County Emergency Medical Services
"The best recognition is that of your peers and by your peers, and that's why we appreciate just the opportunity to let these associations recognize their best," Bruce Lauer, Public Safety Awards Chair Person, said.
This was the 26th year for the event.
